Covington, IN--Like the corn harvest, the attendance of the Grain Elevator and Processing Society's (GEAPS) Cornbelt and Hoosier Chapters' Mini-Convention seems to grow in size each year.

The meeting and expo, which is held at the Beef House Restaurant in Covington, IN, drew a record 41 exhibitors and more than 200 attendees. (View the photos from the event.)

Prior to the expo, many members attended a safety seminar on confined space entry.

Two deaths this year in the Illinois grain industry caused by grain engulfment leant an extra note of caution to the safety presentations.

John Lee, Grain and Feed Association of Illinois, and James Steele, PennMillers Insurance Co., focused on the proper and improper ways to enter enclosed spaces, with emphasis placed on types of behaviors and inactions that can lead to tragedy.

Following the dinner, Cornbelt President Carl Sellmyer, AgRail LLC, announced that Josh Weakly, operations manager, Assumption Coop, has accepted the position of vice president of Cornbelt Chapter.

In addition to Sellmyer, Weakly joins Cornbelt officers Rick Fifer, secretary, 4B Components and Stason Kopps, treasurer, Topflight Grain.
